Jamie Gold Busts Two

On a board of {9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}, Jamie Gold dragged a monster pot with {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. He took out two players on that hand and as he stacked up their chips he admitted, "This is my first ever Omaha tournament."

Gold mentioned that he learned how to play the other night from Robert Williamson III and Jeffrey Lisandro.

Table of Doooooom

After a brisk scour around the cardroom, I think I've found today's Table of Doooooooom:

John Juanda
Annie Duke
Michael 'The Grinder' Mizrachi
Brian Townsend
Johnny Chan
Julian Gardner
Marty Smyth

I'm far from an expert in deciphering which of these big names are strong Omaha players, but in terms of poker stardom, this motley crew must be a fearsome sight for any player. Even the last and probably most unfamiliar name in that list has a formidable record, Irishman Marty Smyth not only tearing up the online scene under his moniker 'Martinus', but also proving his worth on the live scene by defeating a 700+field at this year's Irish Open.

Keiner take a PLblOw

Michael Keiner, who is considered one of the best PLO players in Germany, just took a big hit. On a flop of:

{K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Raises, reraise until all the money goes in.

Keiner: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}
New Best Friend: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

Turn comes {8-Spades}

River adds insult to injury {6-Clubs}

His opponent was actually quite short, so it didnt felt him, but it must have stung.

Wandering Around

Its a Saturday so there are a lot of casual spectators standing around. "Which one is Phil Ivey?" one asked pointing at a particularly non Phil Ivey filled table.

The action has been tentative so far at my tables. Robert Williamson III just sat down, arriving late without a player's arm band. As a floor manager has been pointing out, there are not enough to go around.

Luckily, the field is so strong that the players don't really need ID.

DeWolfe Down One Bullet Early

Roland DeWolfe and Jeffrey Lisandro got in all in on a flop of {K-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}. With Leicester's Peter 'The Poet' Costa having led at the flop for 2,000, there was nearly 23,000 in the pot. Roland flipped over Q Q K 8 for two pair, and Lisandro flipped over {6-Spades}{7-Spades} 4 5. The turn was the {10-Diamonds} and the river the {9-Hearts}, giving Lisandro a straight, and forcing DeWolfe to invoke his chip for a new 10,000. Chips.
