Not Just A Pretty Face

my fellow model friend
my fellow model friend
If you've ever wondered if Mr Antonius is actually as good as everyone seems to think he is, then maybe this will help you come to a conclusion, the former model (we once worked the circuit together - cough) getting the better of 10 foot Phil Gordon in an eyebrow raising Omaha hand.

Gordon bet every street of a {6-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} board, but Patrik called every time. Gordon mucked instantly on the river, allowing Patrik to gleam as he showed a mere {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}.

Good looking AND clever, it's just not fair!

Colour Up and Dinner Break

The last level saw the most noticeable change in fortunes for some of the middling stacks (from good to better, or from bad to worse) with a couple of empty chairs signifying the departure of, for example, Kevin Daly.

400/800 betting limits, with the stud at 100 ante, 100 bring in will be our next level.

5 Ladies in the Field of 105

Of the 105 players that entered today's tournament only 5 are women: Annie Duke (U.S.A.), Jennifer Harman (U.S.A.), Barbara Lewis (U.S.A.), Marissa Chien (U.S.A.) and Francine Brandler (U.K.)

Duke and Harman, as you all know are WSOP bracelet winners-- Harman with two in limit hold'em and no-limit deuce-to-seven single draw and Duke with one in Omaha 8-or-better.

Barbara Lewis had a terrific WSOP this summer with four cashes in four of the forms of poker in the rotation today-- limit hold'em, razz, seven-card stud, and seven-card stud 8 or better.

Marissa Chien is a tax professional from Las Vegas as well a a fierce cash game player. She qualified for the Mansion Poker Dome broadcast and won her first heat, advancing to the semi-finals. Chien is also an avid online player and can frequently be spotted in the mid-limit Omaha 8 or better games.

Francine Brandler is a local player and was eliminated in the early levels of play today. The only recorded cash we can find for her is a 5th place finish in a £40 tournament.

"One of a kind"

An interesting situation just occurred, on Rafi Amit's table. The game is Stud, and the Dealer mistakenly deals Rafi's third card face down. Rafi proceeds to peek at all three of his cards at the same time and turns over the {2-Diamonds}, claiming that was the card destined as his up card. David Williams protests, saying that his hole cards had been mixed together and there was no way of knowing that the duece was the correct card. Rafi disagrees and the floor is called over, and rules that it is a misdeal.

Rafi shows his 3 cards {2-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and exclaims "I had a plan to bluff you all!"

Mark Vos replies with "Yeah, we know your kind."

Rafi says "I know your kind too Mark. Ginger. In fact, you may be one of a kind!"

Penguin In A Microwave

Two third-generation stars cross swords with a veteran Elvis impersonator (not too many of them in poker!) as Bruce 'Elvis' Atkinson, Jon 'Pearljammer' Turner and Richard 'I need a nickname so I don't feel left out' Ashby tangle in a pot of Omaha.

The action started with Ashby flat calling in late position, followed by Turner (button) and Atkinson (big blind).

Flop = {A-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}

Everyone checked round to Turner whose 300 bet was called by both players, before the same happened on the {J-Spades} turn. This time only Ashby called, and the dealer dealt out the final card, the {10-Clubs}.

Both players checked with Turner taking it down with {J-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts} leaving the once chip leader and his {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{K-Spades} about as happy as penguin in a microwave.

Prizepool and Payout Information

Our 105 players in today's £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. event created a prizepool of £262,500. 16 places will be paid with 16th place winning £5,250 and 1st place taking home £70,875.

Full payout information will be available shortly in the "Prizepool and Payouts" tab on the right side of the screen.

Bright As a Button

Remarkably, one player that we have missed thus far is JJ Hazan. I say remarkably, because like NPL victor Peter Gould, JJ is renowned for his brightly coloured shirts, the pattern of which are more reminiscent of my curtains at home than anything you'd expect to see in a clothes store.

Either way, JJ, who final tabled in last year's Amsterdam Master Classics, was just spotted raking in a nice pot. I didn't quite catch the hand, but he was happy to lean over and reveal his 17,100 chip stack.

JJ will probably require every inch of the form that he displayed in Amsterdam, as he's currently the meat in a pro sandwich with Antonius and Lederer to his left and Gordon to his right.

A doddle I say!
