Ardavan Yazdi Leads to Start Day 2 of Colossus III
The third ever Colossus lived up to its name again as six flights across three days attracted 18,053 entries. The surviving 634 players will combine today in the Pavilion at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino as Event #5 of the World Series of Poker 2017 continues.
Ardavan Yazdi is the chip leader with a whopping 588,000. Not too far behind though is Thomas Boivin in second with 538,000 and currently in third place is Harry Arutyunyan on 504,000.
Some of the famous faces in the field who have navigated their way through the huge number of entries include Mike Leah (310,000), Chris Ferguson (309,000), Matt Affleck (272,000), Jason Wheeler (235,000), Chris Moorman (185,000), Ryan Laplante (155,000), Greg Raymer (149,000), Cate Hall (138,000).
Many players fired several bullets to get this far, including Ryan Laplante who tweeted ahead of the start of play: “Day 2 of the $565 @wsop Colossus today, took 9 bullets, but got 2 cashes and bagged 155k at bb8k.”
Ben Keeline won this event last year and he has made it through to Day 2 as well with 53,500 and a dream of making history by claiming back-to-back victories. All the players are in the money with the eventual winner set to take home that magic figure of $1,000,000.
The plan for today is to play 10 one-hour levels with a 15-minute break at the end of every two levels and a one-hour dinner break at the end of today's sixth level which should be 8:30 pm.
Cards are in the air at 2 p.m. when Level 19 clicks over and blinds will be 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante. The average chip stack is currently 142,374. Here's the prize pool information:
