The cast of top poker pros watching the action here in the Penn & Teller Theater continues to rotate. The post-dinner hour has brought appearances from Daniel Negreanu, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Cyndy Violette, Johnny Chan, Chau Giang, Eric “Rizen” Lynch (who coached Darus Suharto for the final table), and 2008 WSOP-Europe bracelet winner Jesper Hougaard who is here supporting his fellow Dane, Peter Eastgate.
Scott Montgomery has the button in Seat 4. He raises to 1.2 million after Peter Eastgate and Dennis Phillips both fold in front of him. That's enough to fold Darus Suharto, but Ivan the Terrible reraises out of the big blind to a total 3.475 million. Montgomery quickly folds his hand.
Dennis Phillips has the button in Seat 1. Peter Eastgate is the first player into the pot with a raise to 1.25 million. He is quickly reraised by Phillips to 3.5 million. Everyone else obligingly gets out of the way, bringing action back around to the quiet, contemplative Dane. He mucks his hand shortly thereafter, much to the delight of the Dennis Phillips Army.
Before we resume play, there's one more surprise in store. Harrahs' security just brought several Milwaukee's Best Light branded silver suitcases out onto the stage. What was inside? Not beer -- it's the cash. All of the suitcases were emptied out onto a black felt-covered table just to the right of media row so that the remaining six players can gaze longingly at what they're playing for.
With Dewey Tomko's speech concluded, Commissioner Pollack took the microphone back to say a few words about tonight's other inductee, Henry Orenstein. Orenstein couldn't be here tonight, so Mori Eskandari is delivering a speech and accepting the induction on Orenstein's behalf.
After some introductory remarks by WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack, Doyle Brunson introduced the first inductee into the Hall of Fame, Dewey Tomko. Tomko is now at the lectern, delivering a speech of his own.
