Hatakeyama's Kicker Earns the Pot

Level 1 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Shinichiro Hatakeyama opened 4,500 in middle position and both Kazuhiko Yotsushika on his left and Ken Okada in the big blind made the call.

The dealer fanned a flop of Q103 and Okada check-called a continuation bet of 5,500 from Hatakeyama while Yotsushika mucked his hand.

Both players checked the J turn and the Q river, and Okada rolled J10 for queens and jacks but Hatakeyama's kicker played as he tabled KJ.

One of the most unique tournaments on the 2024 World Series of Poker schedule continues today at 11 a.m. as Day 2 of Event #85: $1,000 Flip & Go No-Limit Hold'em Presented by GGPoker gets underway. Of the 1,088 entrants at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, with only 136 progressed from the flip stage.

The "Flip" part of this event saw players enter single-table Flip & Go's, with the format being a crazy pineapple style of no-limit hold'em. Players received three cards, discarded one after the flop, and were all in until a winner was determined on each table. Those winners progressed to Day 2, where the "Go" stage sees the event continue as a traditional no-limit hold'em tournament.

The 1,088-strong crowd resulted in a $957,440 prize pool and all 136 Day 2 players have locked in a min-cash, with the WSOP to confirm the official payouts shortly after the day begins.

Everyone through to Day 2 sits down with 160,000 chips, or 80 big blinds. Among the returning players are a whole host of stellar names, including Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen who has had an incredible WSOP thus far, earning his first bracelet and $2,838,389 in the $100,000 High-Roller No-Limit Hold'em, followed by a third place finish in the $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em for $2,397,312.

Chance Kornuth, Yuval Bronshtein, Renan Bruschi, Patrick Leonard, and Scott Seiver are just a handful of names safely through, as well as other $25K Fantasty Draft players, Chris Brewer, Shannon Shorr, Andrew Kelsall, Punnat Punsri, Toby Lewis, and David Williams Michael Moncek, Shaun Deeb, Georgios Sotiropoulos, and six-time bracelet winner Jeremy Ausmus.
