Angela Jordison Claims Chip Lead on Day 1 of $5,000 Seniors High Roller No-Limit Hold'em
After 15 levels of play at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, Event #65: $5,000 Seniors High Roller No-Limit Hold'em of the 2024 World Series of Poker has concluded. Out of 680 total entries, only 161 players remain. Those surviving players have bagged up their chips and will return for Day 2 Thursday, hoping to claim a slice of the $3,128,000 prize pool; 102 will earn a min-cash of $10,000.
Angela Jordison soared into an early lead, bagging and tagging a tournament-leading stack of 707,000 chips at the close of play. The Oregon resident has over 150 cashes on her Hendon Mob profile, with combined earnings tipping the scales at almost $1.3 million. Jordison came agonizingly close to winning her first bracelet in 2022, finishing third in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout event, which earned her a career-best $151,544. She already has four cashes at this year's series and looks nailed on for a fifth in this event.

Although Jordison leads at this early stage, she must bring her A-game to the table to stay ahead of the pack. Bracelet winners Steve Jelinek (539,000), Keith Lehr (473,000), and Daniel Fuhs (431,000) each bagged up enough chips for a top-ten place in the overnight chip counts.
Cliff Josephy (349,000), who has accumulated nearly $8,500,000 in tournament earnings, will return to the field tomorrow with a sizable stack in hopes of making a deep run. Josephy has won two WSOP bracelets, the first in 2005 for $192,150 in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Event. The second came in 2013 for $299,486 in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout.
Most recently, Josephy won a $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Max Event in Las Vegas for $154,670. His largest tournament score remains his third-place finish at the 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event, where he took home $3,453,035.
Other notable players who have bagged a stack and return tomorrow include Bruno Lopes (256,000), Eli Elezra, (108,000) and John Juanda (98,000).
Mike Matusow joins that list of notables, as he accumulated 253,000 chips over the course of the day. Matusow has won four WSOP bracelets, his most recent coming in 2013 in the $5,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Split 8-or-Better for $266,503. Matusow’s career live earnings top $10,400,000, and he will be plenty comfortable tomorrow as he finds himself in the mix in another Day 2 scenario.
A few well-known grinders who fell short of the money include Joe Hachem, John Hennigan, Allen Kessler, Erik Seidel Bill Klein and Steve Zolotow.
Day 2 begins at noon local time on June 27, with blinds starting at 4,000/8,000 and a big blind ante of 8,000. The plan is to play ten 60-minute levels before bagging and returning for the third and final day of play on Friday.
