Kevin Nathan opened up the action with 9♠9♥, bumping things up to 250,000 from the cutoff. Mark Checkwicz defended his big blind with 8♠6♠

Action went check-check on J♠10♣4♠ before Checkwicz led out for 375,000 on the 10♦ turn. Nathan called.

Checkwicz checked the K♦ river to Nathan who was happy to get to showdown. Nathan dragged the pot in and regained the chip lead.

Arie Kliper raised to 210,000 from the cutoff with A♦9♠, Samuel Wagner three-bet to 525,000 on the button holding 6♠6♦ and Michael Vela cold-called from the big blind, with 8♠8♦. Kliper got out of the way.

The 5♥7♥7♦ flop saw Vela check-call a bet of 450,000 from Wagner.

The 5♣ turn saw Vela play in flow. Wagner bet again, this time for 900,000 and Vela folded the best hand.

Kliper fired 110,000 on 2♣J♠8♣ and Wagner made the call with his bottom two-pair.

Action went check-check on the 6♥ turn before Wagner bet 275,000 on the 9♥ river. Kliper gave it some thought, but eventually mucked his Ace-high.

The A♥4♣6♥ flop saw Lopes check-call a bet of 325,000 from Nathan.

The 3♦ turn saw Lopes play in flow. Nathan bet enough to put Lopes all in for his effective stack of 1,920,000. Lopes went deep into the tank before finally making the call.

Lopes needed to find an eight on the river, but the K♣ didn't oblige and he was sent to the rail in sixth place.

Admit it, there were at least times in recent years you thought Daniel Negreanu might never win another World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet. Perhaps, even he had moments of doubt.

There's no longer reason for anyone to doubt the Poker Hall of Famer, not after he took down one of the most prestigious tournaments in all of poker on Thursday, the $50,000 Poker Players Championship for over $1.1 million.

Negreanu's last bracelet came in 2013, and his most recent WSOP title in Las Vegas prior to the 2024 PPC occurred all the way back in 2008. It's been a long journey to bracelet No. 7, one we've chronicled in this article.
