Talal Shakerchi opened from middle position and Brian Rast moved his last few chips into the middle from the cutoff. Erick Lindgren called in the big blind to put Rast officially at risk while Shakerchi also called.

The same betting pattern was repeated following the 6♦ turn with Shakerchi and Lindgren checking to showdown on the 8♠ river.
Rast tabled A♦8♦6♣3♣ but could not win the high half of the pot as Shakerchi held K♥J♠4♥3♠ while Lindgren had A♣J♥9♠2♠ to send him to the rail on Day 1, ensuring there will be no back to back champion this year.
