Yin Picks Off Conniff’s Bluff
The board read K♥10♦7♦9♣. Yuzhou Yin was first to act in the big blind and checked the turn. After a few moments of thinking, Asher Conniff on the cutoff checked behind. The pot was already around 150,000 at that point.
The river was the 8♦. Yin decided to make a small bet of 23,000, which Conniff, after some time thinking, raised to 150,000. While this was not enough to put Yin all in, it wouldn’t leave him with much had he called and lost. Yin thought for a minute and then finally put a small stack of chips on the table in front of him. Conniff confidently turned over A♠Q♦ and Yin almost mucked his hand, seeming to think Conniff had connected on the wet board. But he pulled his cards back at the last second, looked at the dealer, double-checked his opponent’s hand, and then finally turned over 9x7x for the winning two pair.
The very next hand Yin picked up another pot and now sits on a stack of about 40 big blinds.
