The Main Event Feature table stage
The Main Event Feature table stage

Welcome to Day 8 of Event #76: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship at the 2023 World Series of Poker. Cards go in the air at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas at 2 p.m. local time for the final 15 hopefuls.

The largest-ever Main Event drew 10,043 players for a prize pool of $93,399,900 and a top prize of $12,100,000.

The spot at the top of the leaderboard belongs to Spain’s Juan Maceiras, who bagged over 100 million chips and a lead of 41 big blinds over his next closest competitor. That competitor is Adam Walton, thanks to a full house at the end of the night that eliminated Anirban Das and propelled Walton into second place.

The top five is rounded out by Steven Jones and English player Toby Lewis, who finished in the fifth spot after spinning it up after the three-table redraw.

Other returning players from the United Kingdom include Sachin Joshi, Dean Hutchison, and Jack O’Neill.

Another Pot-Limit Omaha bracelet winner, Daniel Weinman, remains in the mix – as well as Day 6 chip leader Joshua Payne, who will return in eighth place. Alec Torelli is also lurking outside the top ten after several late night doubles kept him in contention.

The rest of the contenders include Ruslan Prydryk, Jose Aguilera, Daniel Holzner, and Cong Pham.

Daniel Holzner opened to 1,600,000 from the button before Jack O'Neill jammed for 7,500,000 from the small blind. Cong Pham quickly moved all in over the top for 7,900,000 from the big blind, which pushed Holzner out.

Jack O'Neill: QJ
Cong Pham: AQ

Both players missed the 863 flop for Pham to stay in front. The 4 turn offered no help for O'Neill and the K river confirmed his departure.

Dean Hutchison
Dean Hutchison

Daniel Holzner opened to 1,600,000 in the hijack and Dean Hutchison three-bet to 3,500,000 on the button. Jan-Peter Jachtmann four-bet to 8,800,000 out of the big blind which got Holzner to fold. Hutchison five-bet jammed all in for 15,100,000 and Jachtmann called.

Dean Hutchison: AA
Jan-Peter Jachtmann: 1010

The flop came 742 and Jachtmann picked up a flush draw, getting "oohh's" from the crowd. The 5 and 4 runout bricked out and Hutchison's pocket aces held on for a double up through one of the big stacks.

Joshua Payne Eliminated in 14th Place ($430,200)

Level 36 : Blinds 400,000/800,000, 800,000 ante
Joshua Payne
Joshua Payne

Joshua Payne made it 1,600,000 to go and Jose Aguilera three-bet to 4,500,000 on the button. Daniel Weinman on the button went into the tank and carefully studied the stack size of Aguilera before he four-bet jammed for 29,100,000.

Payne called all-in for 19,600,000 total and Aguilera looked up both opponents to create a three-way all-in!

Joshua Payne: KK
Jose Aguilera: QQ
Daniel Weinman: JJ

The A74 flop changed nothing as Payne remained in the lead. Weinman then spiked the J on the turn to send Payne into a world of pain.

Nothing changed on the 3 river and Payne was sent to the payout desk in agonising fashion while Weinman sky-rocketed up the leaderboard, leaving Aguilera with a short stack.

Sachin Joshi raised to 1,800,000 from under the gun and Juan Maceiras three-bet the button to 5,000,000. It folded back to Joshi who four-bet jammed for 21,100,000 and Maceiras snap-called.

Sachin Joshi: 88
Juan Maceiras: AK

Maceiras took the lead on the A97 flop and retained it throughout the 9 turn as well as the 5 river, sending Joshi to the payout desk in 13th place to collect $535,000 for his efforts.

Cong Pham
Cong Pham

Cong Pham open-jammed a stack of 2,400,000 in the cutoff and Jan-Peter Jachtmann called in the big blind.

Cong Pham: 87
Jan-Peter Jachtmann: A2

Pham needed to hit an eight or a seven and didn't get much help from the 942 flop. The 5 turn gave him additional outs with a gunshot but the 4 bricked off on the river to mark his elimination in 12th place for $535,000 as Jachtmann received a small boost after taking a big hit the previous hand.

The deep run gives the Florida native his biggest career cash, besting his third-place finish in the 2013 Borgata Poker Open that brought him $301,225.

The field of 15 players was whittled down to just 11 as they are heading on their first 20-minute break of the day. They will be returning to a 1,000,000 big blind and ante, just one elimination away from the redraw and two eliminations away from the end of the day. Jose Aguilera shoved 8,500,000 and Daniel Weinman looked him up from the cutoff. The button and blinds got out of the way and action was heads up with Aguilera at risk.

Jose Aguilera: A4
Daniel Weinman: KK

The board ran out 710696 and Aguilera turned a flush to double through Weinman.

Alec Torelli was the third short stack to move all-in for six and a half blinds, picking up a call from Juan Maceiras.

Alec Torelli: JJ
Juan Maceiras: AK

The classic flip had Torelli at risk as he paced back to his rail, but fell silent when the K86 flop improved Maceiras.

Nothing changed with the 6 turn and A river as Torelli's run ended in 11th place for $700,000.

Juan Maceiras opened to 2,000,000 from under the gun and Daniel Holzner three-bet to 8,400,000 on his left, leaving just 100,000 behind. The action folded back to Maceiras who shoved all in and Holzner quickly called.

Daniel Holzner: AQ
Juan Maceiras: A10

The flop came 1055 to give Maceiras the lead as the rest of the table looked on with anticipation of a potential final table. The turn was the 6 which changed nothing but the Q on the river sent Holzner and his rail into a frenzy as he scored a double up.
