Shoesmith's Top Pair is Good

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

The under-the-gun player raised to 1,100 and Linn Shoesmith called in the hijack before Jason Koon came along in the big blind.

The dealer fanned a flop of K42 and Koon checked to the preflop raiser who continued for 1,000. Shoesmith made the call and Koon check-raised to 3,400. Only Shoesmith called.

The J fell on the turn and Koon checked it over to Shoesmith as he bet 2,600. Koon called.

The 6 river was checked by both players and Koon said, "I think you win," as he tabled AJ. Shoesmith showed K9 for top pair and dragged the pot.

Action caught up on the turn in a hand between Kasey Mills in late position and a player to her immediate left on the button, with Mills betting 2,200 and her opponent raising to 6,500 on a board that read K1086.

Mills would make the call and check the 9 river, after which her opponent bet out 11,000.

After some moments of deliberation, Mills would make the fold face-up, showing K8.

"I thought I flush over flushed you," commented Mills' opponent, who didn't reveal his hole cards.

Li Takes an Unorthodox Line

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Yingui Li
Yingui Li

Action was opened by Yingui Li in late position who bet 2,000. The button then three-bet to 6,500. Li called.

The QJ3 flop landed and without thinking for more than a few seconds Li led for 8,000. The preflop three-bettor thought for a moment and made the call.

The turn brought in a fourth spade with the 8. This time Li opted to slow down and check. The button thought it over but checked behind.

The 4 river landed and now Li put his foot back on the gas and led for 13,500. The button snap folded but Li would say later that he turned the nuts and played it tricky.

Under the gun raised and was three-bet to 4,000 by Greg Raymer in middle position. Action folded round to Roman Kagan in the big blind, who announced all in for around 34,000.

The original raiser got out of the way and after a quick ponder, Raymer flicked in a chip to make the call, putting Kagan's tournament life at risk.

Roman Kagan: AA
Greg Raymer: AK

The dealer spread out an inconsequential 7742J and Kagan pulled in the pot.
