Event #74: $1,000 Mini Main Event Kicks Off at 10 a.m.

The 2023 World Series of Poker continues at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas today with Event #74: $1,000 Mini Main Event at 10 a.m. local time. The Mini Main Event is the precursor to the Main Event with a similar structure and format to the latter. A massive field is to be expected as all players compete for the top prize and bracelet that await the winner.

The reigning champion is the United States own Young Sik who beat a field of 5,833 entrants to claim the first-place prize of $594,189 as well as his first WSOP bracelet. If trends from this year's WSOP continue, then the entrants and prize pool will dwarf last year's numbers as many records have been broken thus far by the series.

Lashmar Shows Them the Bad News

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Ryan Lashmar
Ryan Lashmar

This hand was relayed by PokerNews' own Ryan Lashmar.

The under-the-gun player opened for 2,000 and the hijack called. Dan Samson called from the button, while Lashmar called from the big blind with 22.

The flop came Q62, and all players checked around.

When the J peeled off on the turn, Lashmar bet 3,000 and all remaining players called.

The river was the 9, and the hijack led out for 13,200. Samson and Lashmar made the call, and Lashmar revealed his 22 to the table. Everyone else mucked their hands.

Kings Work for Patrick

Mike Patrick
Mike Patrick

Action folded to PokerNews' own Mike Patrick who raised to 6,000 only to see the big blind three-bet jam.

Patrick called off for less, putting himself at risk and headed to a runout.

Big Blind: A3

The board of J44J5 ran out safe for Patrick to secure a full double-up.
