Shimizu Makes the Wrong Call
Level 25
: Blinds 50,000/100,000, 0 ante
Josh Arieh picked up the Q♠J♠ and raised from the button. Nozomu Shimizu defended his big blind with the J♣2♣.
The flop came J♦K♣10♦ for both of them to hit a pair of jacks but for Arieh to have the higher kicker and open-ended straight draw. Arieh bet, Shimizu check-raised, and Arieh called.
The turn was the K♠, and Shimizu checked again. Arieh fired a bet out and Shimizu called.
The river completed the board with the 9♣ for Arieh to hit his straight draw. Shimizu bet, Arieh raised, Shimizu looked at the board, and mumbled through his options. He tanked for a bit longer, got up from his seat, stared at the board for another while, and then reluctantly called to see he was wrong.
