Brenes Gains Much-Needed Chips

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Humberto Brenes found himself in a precarious situation as a short stack after the dinner break.

But in two consecutive hands, he added chips to his stack.

On the first hand, Brenes was on the button when the player in the hijack raised to 3,000. Brenes, who at this point had approximately 25,000 in front of him, elected to call. The blinds folded.

The dealer placed 1089 on the board, and both players checked. The 2 appeared on the turn, which Brenes’ opponent checked. Brenes, however, bet 10,000 and forced a fold from his opponent.

On the very next hand, action folded to Brenes in the cutoff and he raised to 5,000, which resulted in folds from both blinds and Brenes secured the 4,000 in dead money.

It remains to be seen if Brenes eventually emerges to make to a run at another bracelet, but the two pots won in consecutive hands represented a step in a positive direction.
