Salazar Surging With a Bluff

Level 14 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

No-Limit Hold'em

The heads-up action was picked up with 126,000 already in the pot and a board reading {k-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. Aden Salazar led out from under-the-gun for 41,000. His opponent, on the button, made the call fairly quickly.

On the {6-Spades} river, Salazar thought for a bit before announcing that he was all in. The button would have the effective stack of 126,000 should he make the call. He went into the tank for a minute or two, at one point telling Salazar "I got ace high," presumably hoping to be able to make a read. Eventually, me made the laydown.

Salazar, before scooping the pot, showed {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a bluff. After seeing this, the button retrieved his cards from the nearby muck and showed the better hand with {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. Nevertheless, the pot went to Salazar who became one of the first players in the field with half a million chips.
