Merkow Recovers Immediately By Running Down Aces

Level 38 : 500,000/1,000,000, 1,000,000 ante

Gregg Merkow opened to just over 3,000,000 from the cutoff.

"Pretty much committed," said Merkow, as action folded to Konstantin Angelov in the big blind.

Angelov slid in a stack of chips that covered Merkow, who called to put his tournament life at risk.

Konstantin Angelov: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Gregg Merkow: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{6-Hearts}

"We need clubs bad!" said Markow.

No clubs showed up on the {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop.

"That's not good," said Merkow. "Seven, deuce, or jack," announced the rail.

The {2-Spades} hit the turn to give Merkow two pair and vault him to the lead. The river {q-Clubs} changed nothing and Merkow came from behind to recover with a large pot.
