Muramalla Makes a Full House to Evade Elimination on Precipice of Bubble

Level 17 : 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante

The tournament directors had just announced that the field was on the bubble, with just one more player to be knocked out before the money. On the first hand after this, the hijack led out for 30,000. He received one caller, Venkata Muramalla in the big blind.

The flop came {6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

The {6-Diamonds} came on the turn. Muramalla led for 40,000. After sizing up Muramalla's stack, the hijack shoved all in. Muramalla, with 164,000 behind, was covered by his opponent, who had north of 300,000 remaining. Muramalla called, and the table froze as they waited for other tables to finish their hands to ensure the bubble and payouts were managed properly. During the several-minute wait, Muramalla asked his opponent what he had.

"Flush draw. Ace-five of diamonds" he responded.

After a few more minutes, the table resumed with spectators and players anxiously watching on. The players tabled their hands.

Muramalla: {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

The {k-Spades} arrived on the river. Muramalla scooped the pot, doubled up, avoided elimination, and officially made the money a few minutes later when the bubble burst on another table.
