Lay Saved By the River

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Shannon Shorr opened to 4,000 from late position and was called by the cutoff as well as Kenny Lay in the big blind.

Action checked to the cutoff player on a flop of {10-Spades}{q-Hearts}{8-Spades}, who fired off a bet of 8,000. Lay responded by moving all in for 26,500. Shorr, seeing such a great deal of action ahead of him, folded and the cutoff player called with the larger stack to put Lay at risk.

Kenny Lay: {k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Cutoff: {q-}{j-}

Lay was behind but did have an open ended straight draw. The {6-Hearts} turn brought no help to Lay but he nailed Barry Greenstein,{a-Spades}, on the river to survive late on Day 1.
