Ghiai Busts Kings to Double Up

Level 1 : 100/100, 100 ante

After a raise to 300 from middle position, the hijack put in a reraise to 900. The cutoff quickly put in the four-bet to 3,300. Shawn Ghiai made the call from the big blind and the rest of the table got out of the way.

On the {2-Spades}{k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop, the cutoff continued for 6,000. Ghiai quickly moved all in with the effective stack of 13,900. His opponent made the snap-call.

Shawn Ghiai: {q-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Ghiai was behind, as his opponent had flopped top set, but he had outs with his open-ended straight draw. He hit one of those outs, as the {a-Spades} turn gave him the Broadway straight, and left his opponent drawing thin to a full house or quads. Neither of those came to fruition, as the board bricked out with the {8-Spades} on the river.

Ghiai's straight was good enough to bust his opponents set of kings, earning him the double up, and giving him one of the larger stacks in the room here in the early stages of Day 1.
