Sudell Turns Higher Straight to Knockout Matakis

Ian Matakis opened the action from early position with a bet of 11,000. Derek Sudell, in middle position, put in a raise to 28,000. The rest of the table got out of the way before Matakis made the call.

The flop came , at which Sudell fired another 23,000. Matakis raised to 65,000. Sudell moved all in and Matakis made the snap-call with the effective stack of 167,000.

Matakis had flopped a ten high straight, but Sudell had an open ender to a jack or queen high straight. That draw got there on the turn. The river changed nothing. Sudell's jack high straight was just good enough to beat Matakis' ten high straight, giving Sudell the big pot and sending Matakis out of the tournament.
