Thorpe Shows a Queen, Tells a Story
Mike Thorpe had just finished telling the table about why he chose to play this particular event.
"It was either play this tournament or put together a couch," said Thorpe, who then went on to tell the table about his new living room accessory in elaborate detail.
"Eh, no one cares," Thorpe said to himself as he wrapped up the story.
Shortly after, Julien Martini opened in early position and a player called in between before Thorpe called on the button. The action checked to Thorpe on the flop of , who asked the dealer to confirm the action.
"Did it go check-check? I verbally bet!" announced Thorpe. "Hey Julian, look into my eyes."
"Oh no, you have the nuts!" laughed Martini, who called the bet before the third player in the hand folded.
Martini checked again on the turn and Thorpe once again told the dealer he wanted to "verbally bet." Martini folded before Thorpe flashed a queen in his hand to be good for top pair.
"Thank god that was against you or I would lose a lot of money in this hand," Martini said.
