Bluffing Phil Ivey All In with Seven-High in a $200K Buy-In Tournament?

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Emptying the clip on a bluff with seven-high against Phil Ivey is a gutsy play, and that's exactly what Christoph Vogelsang attempted on Day 2 of the $200,000 buy-in Coin Rivet Invitational at Triton Poker Cyprus.

Ivey was on his second bullet after busting with a king-high flush against the nut flush of Linus Loeliger during the first level of Day 1. Vogelsang likely knew that and took that into consideration when he put the Poker Hall of Famer to the test.

Blinds: 100/200

The action started when Martin "Bathroomline" Zamani opened to 450 from under the gun and Michael "SnakePlisken" Bees in the hijack, Michael "hoysrevenge" Sandler in the cutoff, and Matthew "mendey" Mendez in the big blind all made the call.

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and it checked to Bees who bet out 1,625, which only Sandler called. On the {2-Hearts} turn Bees kept the aggression up with a bet of 2,775 and without much thought, Sandler folded.

Laplante Finds Favorable Runout

Ryan "Protential" Laplante
Ryan "Protential" Laplante

Blinds: 75/150

Anna ”Dusty4” Antimony opened the action from the cutoff to 431 and "banderson0" three-bet from the button to 1,518. Next to act in the small blind was Ryan "Protential" Laplante who four-bet to 5,135. The rest of the table got out of the way and "banderson0" moved all in, covering the 7,049 total of Laplante who made the call.

Ryan "Protential" Laplante: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}
"banderson0": {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

The flop came {a-Clubs}{6-Spades}{4-Spades} giving "banderson0" top-set and huge lead on the hand, but when the board ran out {k-Spades} and {5-Spades} it was the rivered straight for Laplante that scored the full double up.

Blinds: 50/100

Kyle ”JackintheB0x” Miholich opened to 200 from the hijack and Stanton "Stonniepokes" Tentnowski made the call on the button. Matthew "scourrge" Vaughan elected on a three-bet from the big blind to 850, which both players made the call.

On the flop of {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}, Vaughan checked and Miholich bet out 1,422. Tentnowski folded and Vaughan came along.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and Vaughan checked again. Miholich sized up to full pot and Vaughan check-raised to 10,888, which was called.

The {6-Hearts} completed the board and Vaughan moved all in for 7,040 which was snap-called by Miholich.

Vaughan rolled over {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for pocket-aces while Miholich tabled {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Spades} for a rivered straight and the winning hand. Vaughan quickly rebought to get back in the action.
