Varnell Faces Big River Decision

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Craig Varnell
Craig Varnell

With a large pile of chips in the middle, Craig Varnell was deep in the tank on a river board of {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, facing a check-raise to 25,000 from his opponent.

A call would leave Varnell with just 13,000 if he was wrong, but he'd have over 100,000 if he was right.

Varnell flicked in the calling chip and unfortunately for him, was wrong.

His opponent showed {8-Clubs}{8-Spades} for a flopped set, while Varnell frustratedly tossed {a-}{k-} into the muck as he riffled his now short stack of chips.

Cai Fries Opponents, Takes Out Two Players

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Jessica Cai
Jessica Cai

There was three-way action on a flop that read {7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

According to table mate Mike Del Vecchio, It was a five-way limped pot. On the flop, the action checked around to Jessica Cai on the button and she bet 1,200. She was called by the player in the small blind but when the big blind acted he three-bet to 5,200.

Cai then raised to 22,200 when the action got back to her. The player in the small blind cold-called and then the player in the big blind jammed all in for 60,000.

Cai shoved over the top. The small blind went into the tank before calling off his stack.

Small Blind: {q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Big Blind: {5-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Jessica Cai: {j-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The small blind flopped the low end of the straight. The big blind flopped a queen-high flush draw and the open-ended straight draw. Cai flopped the nut straight.

The turn and river changed nothing and Cai scooped a massive pot with a double knockout.

Jared Jaffee

Jared Jaffee raised to 1,300 from the button and then called the 5,200 three-bet his opponent made from the big blind.

The {4-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop saw Jaffee call the 4,500 continuation bet form his opponent and the {9-Spades} fell on the turn.

Opponent: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Jared Jaffe: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}

Jaffee turned the nuts while also holding a straight flush draw and his opponent was drawing to a chop at best but the {8-Diamonds} paired the board on the river ending their Main Event.

Daniel Fuhs

Daniel Fuhs was out of position in a heads-up pot against Troy Sprungl on a board reading {4-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

Fuhs led out with a river bet of 20,000 with a significant amount of chips already in the pot and his opponent raised all-in. Fuhs let out a laughed and leaned backward before eventually folding {j-}{j-} for a set of jacks face-up.

"That's just sick," said Fuhs. "That's just gross. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow."

"Good laydown," Sprungl told him.

Frank Stepuchin
Frank Stepuchin

The action was picked up on the flop with the board showing {5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{k-Hearts} and the pot of 7,000 in chips.

Frank Stepuchin checked and his only opponent bet 4,500. Stepuchin check-raised to 13,800 and his opponent tanked before making the call.

The turn was {q-Clubs} and Stepuchin ordered another beer while holding a chicken wing in one hand before making another bet, this time 43,800 and enough to put his opponent at risk.

His opponent eventually mucked and Stephuchin said "I'll show you one time but next time it'll cost you" and showed {5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}.

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Ryan DePaulo
Ryan DePaulo

Action was recapped by the table. Ryan Depaulo raised to 1,100 preflop in early position and action folded to Mark Zullo in the big blind who raised to 4,200, which Depaulo called.

The flop came out {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts} which Zullo bet 3,500 into, and was met by a raise to 11,500 from Depaulo which Zullo called.

The turn came an {8-Clubs} and Zullo checked to Depaulo who went all-in and Zullo snap-called.

Ryan Depaulo: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Mark Zullo: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Zullo had a full house and Depaulo only had one out for the royal flush for the win. The river came a brick and Depaulo was eliminated from the tournament.

Controversial Hand At Table 519

Level 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Cole Ferraro
Cole Ferraro

Action picked up on the turn. Table mates recapped that the preflop action was Rafaelle Sorrentino raising to 1,000 preflop, Cole Ferraro and Michael Coombs calling from the cutoff and button. The big blind responded with three-betting to 7,200, which all the players called and the flop was seen four ways.

The flop came down {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{7-Spades} and the action checked through to the {10-Diamonds} turn where Sorrentino bet 9,400 and Ferraro called. Coombs responded by going all-in with the covering stack and the big blind folded. Sorrentino went into tank for three minutes before calling for his stack and Ferraro snap-called behind.

Cole Ferraro: {j-Spades}{9-Spades}
Rafaelle Sorrentino: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Michael Coombs: {10-Spades}{8-Spades}

Coombs had both the players covered, but needed to improve to a full house on the river to win. Sorrentino was drawing to a nine for a straight and Ferraro had the best hand with a made jack-high straight. The river was the {9-Hearts} and Sorrentino improved to the same straight and chopped the pot with Ferraro.

However, after the hand was finished there was some confusion about how much the dealer had pulled into the pot and after about 3 minutes, the floor was called. Play was halted at the table for roughly ten minutes while the table checked the surveillance tapes and eventually the stacks were counted out correctly and play continued.

Kitt-Carter Has the Case King

Level 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Lauren Kitt-Carter,
Lauren Kitt-Carter,

A hand was in progress on the turn with the board reading {9-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. A pot was of about 30,000 was in the middle and a player was deep in the tank making a huge decision for his remaining 33,000 tournament life.

Lauren Kitt-Carter was the player who had moved all in to apply the pressure. After several more moments the opponent called and saw his worst fears as Kitt-Carter tabled the {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} for quads, while he flipped over the {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

The river was a meaningless {6-Hearts} and Kitt-Carter collected all the chips of her fallen opponent to add to her massive stack.

Earlier in the day she made headlines by bluffing Justin Bonomo out of a pot with a massive overbet.

Simao In the Blender, Bleznick Shows "Nine-High Like A Boss"

Level 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Jared Bleznick
Jared Bleznick

The action was found on the turn {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Joao Simao called a bet from Jared Bleznick to see the river.

On the river {7-Clubs}, Simao checked and Bleznick shoved for enough to cover Simao.

Simao leaned back in his chair, took a sip of water and went deep into the tank for approximately eight minutes.

The clock was eventually called and as the count ran under five seconds, Simao folded his hand.

Bleznick tossed forward his {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} to the table playing the board, and all Simao could do was smile.

"Nice show, " said a player at the table. "That was amazing."

The hand rekindled memories of the 2016 Main Event when William Kassouf made a huge bluff and was quoted as saying "Nine-high like a boss."
