Berkey On Top, 46 Advance From Day 1c of Event #8: $1,000 No Limit Hold'em PA Championship

Matt Berkey
Matt Berkey

The final day of Event #8: $1,000 No Limit Hold'em PA Championship was the biggest of all three starting flights by far, as 159 entries (135 players and 24 rebuys) hit the felt in search of making it to Day 2 and a chance at earning WSOP Gold. Only 46 players managed to advance in today's Day 1c flight, with Matt "berkey11" Berkey holding the chip lead with 114,902 chips for Day 2, which sits in second place overall behind Ryan "fun_game" McKnight and his bag of 138,081.

Berkey jostled for the chip lead for much of the latter half of play, as it was a two-player race most of the way, with "Ngindn" leading for the vast majority of it by winning a series of medium pots, including one where he flopped quads on Andrew "BigFanWow" Kagan to eliminate him with under an hour to go in the evening. The heat died out from "Ngindn" and their strong start, however, and they ended up with a stack of 81,060 to bring to Day 2, while Berkey kept the momentum going and goes into tomorrow with a healthy chip stack.

Others that managed to bag up a stack for tomorrow include Brian "CleggsOnGG" Frasca (88,313), Drew "MoveBlanket" Gonzalez (73,110), and David "DeathNote__" Goodman (53,484).

Day 2 Agenda

The remaining 88 players will return tomorrow, August 16th at 5:30 p.m. EST to play down to a winner, who will be awarded a WSOP Gold Bracelet. The client currently only shows the top three positions for payouts, with first earning $65,525, while second and third will walk away with $40,669 and $27,654 respectively, and the client currently shows that 63 players will be in the money, meaning 25 players will walk away empty-handed. Full payout information will be released at the start of Day 2. Blinds for Day 2 will start at 1,000/2,000/250, and increase every 15-minutes for the remainder of the tournament.

PokerNews will be on hand tomorrow for the final day of the Pennsylvania Championship, with live reporting from start to finish, so be sure to stay tuned as the latest WSOP.com Pennsylvania Gold Bracelet Winner is crowned!
