Event #23: $500 NLH Turbo
Day 1 Completed
On Friday night, the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online Event #23: $500 NLH Turbo attracted 457 players who rebought 237 times. The 694-entry field created a prize pool of $312,300, and after just over six hours of play, it was New Jersey’s Ryan "hagzzz021" Hagerty coming out on top to capture the $67,207 top prize and his first WSOP gold bracelet.
The victory came less than a day after he finished fifth in Event #22: $600 NLH Knockout for $9,958, and a month after he won the WSOP Circuit Super Series Event #7: $75,000 GTD NLH 6-Max for $22,925 and his first gold ring.
Hagerty, who had more than $340K in live tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob, nearly captured the 2020 WSOP Domestic Main Event bracelet back in December but ultimately fell short in fourth place for $387,130. A well-respected online grinder, Hagerty didn’t have to wait long to make a run at another bracelet, and this time he closed it out.
Place | Player | Prize |
1 | Ryan "hagzzz021" Hagerty | $67,207 |
2 | Richard "Na_Cho_Cheez" Liotta | $41,630 |
3 | Russell “njpincher” Crane | $28,669 |
4 | Calvin "projector52" Anderson | $20,081 |
5 | Anthony "boom81boom" Chin | $14,303 |
6 | Anthony “sub_zer0” Marioni | $10,368 |
7 | Claudio "Lukaslo0413" Guzman | $7,651 |
8 | Kyle “JackintheB0x” Miholich | $5,746 |
9 | Raymond “Tastemybeans” Fillipone | $4,403 |
Among the notables to finish in the top 90 and cash were Arkadiy "Crocofantos" Tsinis (11th - $3,435), Mike “Mkspresident” Shin (18th - $2,217), Matt “RubberFist” Stout (24th - $1,843), Daniel “DNegs” Negreanu (26th - $1,843), Brock “ohmyguan” Wilson (44th - $1,343), Phil “Lumestackin” Hellmuth (52nd - $1,156), Bernard “Dogger9” Lee (61st - $1,062), Ryan “bitc0in” Riess (73rd - $906), and Chris “Robotbob47” Moorman (83rd - $874).
Given the tournament’s turbo nature, the final table didn’t take long to play out. Raymond “Tastemybeans” Fillipone was the first to fall losing a race with king-jack against pocket tens, and Kyle "JackintheB0x" Miholich followed him out the door after running two black jacks into the pocket queens of Hagerty.
Claudio "Lukaslo0413" Guzman then shoved with ace-queen only to run smack dab into the aces of Hagerty, and then Anthony "boom81boom" Chin woke up with a pair of aces of his own to eliminate Anthony “sub_zer0” Marioni, who got it in bad with pocket jacks.
Despite winning that hand, Chin was next to go when his ace-three failed to get there against the pocket eights of Hagerty, and then two-time bracelet winner Calvin “projector52” Anderson bowed out in fourth place after his queen-seven suited went down in flames to the ace-ten of Russell "njpincher" Crane.
Crane then lost two big pots to Richard "Na_Cho_Cheez" Liotta to bow out in third. In what would be his last hand, Crane got it in with pocket eights and lost to ace-eight when a bullet spiked on the river.
The heads-up match between Liotta and Hagerty was a back-and-forth affair with both players seemingly on the verge of capturing the bracelet only to have the other storm back. Things got shallow and all-in shoves became the standard play until Hagerty got paired his queen holding queen-five to outdraw the ace-jack of Liotta.
The 2021 WSOP Online continues on Saturday with Event #24: $400 NLH Monster Stack. PokerNews will be live reporting and streaming the action, so be sure to join us then.
