Up and Down for Bruschi to Bust In the End

Ponakovs vs Bruschi
Ponakovs vs Bruschi

Blinds: 2,000/4,000

Aleksejs Ponakovs raised to 8,000 from the button and Renan Bruschi defended. Bruschi check-called the 16,000 continuation-bet of Ponakovs on the {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop. They both checked through the {8-Clubs} on the turn to the {8-Spades} on the river. Bruschi checked for the final time but Ponakovs shoved for 71,958. Bruschi tanked for a while but called with the {j-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for two pair. Ponakovs tabled the {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} for the higher ones to double up.

Bruschi was left with 8,804 which he first doubled up with with the {8-Clubs}{5-Spades} against the {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} of Ponakovs on the {4-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} board. He then doubled again with the {q-Spades}{5-Diamonds} against the {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} of Ponakovs. The board read {4-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades} when all the cards were dealt for Bruschi to had hit two pair.

But in the end, Ponakovs shoved from the button and Bruschi called for the 44,336 he had behind.

Renan Bruschi: {k-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Aleksejs Ponakovs: {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The board ran out {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Spades} for Ponakovs to flop top pair immediately and avoid the straight Bruschi could have rivered to earn the last spot in the money stages.
