Matusow in the Main
Mike "The Mouth" Matusow opened for 500 from the button and took down the blinds in one of the first hands of Day 1c. He did so in the midst of telling a story about losing a 2.5 million chip pot with 97 percent equity, at some other point of his two-decade-plus poker career.
Matusow was one of the "Poker Boom" characters that fueled the game's popularity in the mid-2000s, and the four-time bracelet winner is no stranger to Main Event success. His career accomplishments include two final tables in this event, coming in ninth in 2005 for a career-best $1,000,000 payday, and sixth in 2001 for $239,765.
The legendary character also finished 30th in 2008 ($193,000) and 87th in 2004 ($20,000). A deep run in the 2019 Main Event would no doubt be quite a story.
