Chop City

Level 29 : 60,000/120,000, 0 ante

Brian Hastings opened to 250,000 in the small blind. Nick Schulman defended and the flop came {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Both players checked and the turn was {8-Spades}. Both players checked again.

The dealer turned over the river {a-Clubs} and Schulman bet the pot, 500,000. Hastings quickly called.

Schulman tabled {q-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Hastings showed {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. Schulman won the low with his five-deuce while Hastings had Broadway which was good for the high.

Hastings Makes the Right Call to Chop

Level 29 : 60,000/120,000, 0 ante

Brian Hastings raised to 250,000 on the button, and Nick Schulman called.

Both players checked the {7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} flop, and Schulman checked the {6-Clubs} turn. Hastings bet 350,000, and Schulman check-raised to 1.4 million. Hastings called.

Schulman jammed on the {2-Clubs} river, putting Hastings at risk for his last 2.38 million. Hastings tanked for about two minutes before calling, and after Schulman revealed his {9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a nine-high straight and a live five for low, Hastings rolled over {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for an eight-high straight and a better low, chopping the pot.

"I wasn't folding, so I figured I'd go ahead and just put it in," Schulman told Hastings.

All the Sweats Lead to a Chop

Nick Schulman

Brian Hastings raised to 250,000 from the button, and Nick Schulman three-bet to 750,000 in the big blind. Hastings called.

Schulman bet 1.5 million on the {7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop, then called when Hastings jammed for 2.45 million.

Brian Hastings: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Nick Schulman: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}

Hastings had the lead for high with his pair of queens and nut flush draw, while Schulman had the nut low draw and could hit an ace or king to take the lead for high. The {3-Spades} turn improved Schulman to the nut low, and gave him an additional out to scoop the pot and win the tournament outright with the {3-Diamonds}. The {5-Diamonds} river bricked off, and the duo chopped the pot.
