Hellmuth In, Hellmuth Out
15-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth was seen pushing his chair in while making a quick exit from the tournament area, just after firing two bullets in Event #5: 50th Annual High Roller - $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em. A player at the table was kind enough to share how Hellmuth's demise came about.
A player raised to 5,000 from early position, and John Lyons called next to act. The cutoff three-bet to 13,000, and Hellmuth, who had approximately 27,000 to start the hand, called in the small blind, as did the original raiser and Lyons.
The flop contained two spades, and everyone checked through to the turn, which was another spade. Lyons bet 27,000, the cutoff called, and Hellmuth called off his last 14,000.
The river was another spade, and Lyons checked. The cutoff checked back, and Lyons showed for the nut flush. Hellmuth tabled , and was left raising his hands in the air in frustration before silently leaving the table.
