Dan Smith Leads Stacked Field After Day 1 of Event #11: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em
Day 1 of Event #11: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em is in the books with several big name players having taken part in many interesting hands. Some 343 players registered for this prestigious tournament and at the end of the day just 137 remained.
The chip leader at the end of the day’s eight played levels was none other than Dan Smith who bagged a whopping 321,100. Other notable large stacks include Simon Deadman (267,600), Darryll Fish (259,000) and Faraz Jaka (224,600).
Many players who started the day with high hopes, had their stacks reduced to nothing over the course of play. Among those eliminated were, Joe Cada, Joe McKeehen, Rainer Kempe and defending 2018 $5K event bracelet champion Jeremy Wien.
One of the notable players to hit the rail was Sam Soverel who ran his pocket queens into the pocket aces of Ali Imsirovic late in the final level of the day.
Imsirovic will join many other well-known players who survived Day 1, such as David Peters, Dietrich Fast, Adrian Mateos and Niall Farrell, whose day got off to a brilliant start when he turned a straight flush that got paid off on the river.
Play will resume at 2:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday June 4th. There will be ten 60-minute levels played. Blinds will resume at 600/1,200 with an ante of 1,200 at Level 9.
All of the notable players coming together as well as the likelihood of even more big names jumping into the fray through late registration that is open until the end of Level 12, will create quite an exciting Day 2 that will be covered in its entirety on PokerNews.
