Cosmo Andoloro Among Leaders After Day 1 of the $500 Casino Employees Event
The opening event of the 50th Annual World Series of Poker saw 686 entrants hit the felt in search of a coveted WSOP Bracelet, and after a long Day 1 that lasted over sixteen levels, the bubble burst and just 103 players were left, all in the money with a min-cash of $727 guaranteed, with their eye on the WSOP bracelet and $62,345 top prize.
One of the leaders in the tournament is Cosmo Andoloro, who managed to bag a healthy 650,000 in chips. He gained the majority of his stack by flopping a flush with against the of an opponent. Andoloro, a floor supervisor at Red Dragon Casino in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, scooped in the massive pot and never looked back.
Others to find a big bag include Planet Hollywood dealer Christopher Bowen (633,000), Thunder Valley Poker Room Manager Miguel Cardenas (512,000), Stephanie Otteson (479,000), and Talking Stick Poker Host Brad Helm (465,000). Joining them in Day 2 are WSOP Bracelet winner Jon Freidberg (360,000), Austin Roberts (342,000), who just finished in third place at the Run It Up Reno VIII Main Event, WSOP Poker Editor Isaac Hanson (249,000), and PokerNews Live Reporter Adam Lamers (116,000).
Likewise, multiple players from the DraftKings contingent that invaded the Rio made it through to Day 2, including Director of Community Team Steve McLoughlin (150,500), and Asad Abdullah (50,000), who McLoughlin shared with us has been playing poker for less than a year, and this was his first tournament cash. In addition, Abdullah got engaged on Saturday before making it down to the WSOP.
Not everyone was fortunate enough to make it through to Day 2. Some of those that hit the rail include former champion in this event Chad Holloway, a contingent from Team PokerNews including Yori Epskamp, Valerie Cross, Leo Contreras, Mo Nuwwarah, Milko van Winden, Oliver Biles, Brandyn Trenholm, and Kevin Mathers, DraftKings Senior Advisor and former WSOP Bracelet winner Jonathan Aguiar, last year's third-place finisher Katie Kopp, and three-time WSOP Bracelet winner Dutch Boyd.
Thursday's Day 2 will start at 12 noon, with all the remaining players in the money. The field will play down to the final six on Day 2, with those players returning on Friday at the same time to play down to a winner. All the action will be streamed on PokerGo on a 30-minute delay.
