Day 2 of Mixed NLH/PLO to Break Bubble Early
An eventful Day 1 saw the field in Event #72: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed dwindle from 707 entries to just 123 contenders. They haven't locked a profitable campaign yet but the first step towards paid places was gigantic. The tournament is currently 16 spots away from the money so the mix of the two most popular poker disciplines should bring some thrilling moments right at the start of the second day.
The shorter side of chip counts features several star players such as Cliff Josephy, Ari Engel, Vlad Darie and Anton Morgenstern who will all have some work to do to secure at least $2,240. While they've all made for their names by accomplishing way more than notching min-cashes, it's the first essential step to call it a successful tournament performance.
It doesn't hurt to look at the ceiling, though, with a handsome $197,461 reward sitting at the top. Those who set the bar high include WSOP bracelet winner Peter Eichhardt who finished the first day with 127,800, trailing only chip leader Jordan Polk (148,500). The top also 10 features the likes of Jon Turner (98,700) and Alexander Ziskin (91,800).
Some other familiar faces in the remaining field are 2005 WSOP Main Event champ Joe Hachem, former November Niner Jesse Sylvia and an almost-November Niner Daniel Negreanu who's won six bracelets in his excellent career.
The pack of 123 players will come back at 2 p.m. to try to continue showcasing their NLH and PLO prowess. Follow the PokerNews live updates to find out who will make it all the way to the final table.
