Welcome to Event #71: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em
Day 1 of Event #71: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em (30 minute levels) is set to start at 11 a.m. local time today. The last tournament with this buy-in will be a two-day event and a winner will be crowned tomorrow, Wednesday, July 11.
Chris Brammer is the defending champion who took home $527,555 and the coveted gold WSOP bracelet. Brammer has been spotted in Las Vegas this summer but hasn’t had any results at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino yet. Last year, this event took place earlier in the summer and before the Main Event. 505 players decided to fork out the $5,000 buy-in and the expectation is that the total number of entries will be lower.
Last year’s final table also featured players like Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Tobias Ziegler, Oliver Weis, and Alex Foxen for example. As the tournament features blind levels of only 30 minutes each, action is expected to be fast paced from the start even though it is a freeze-out.
Players will receive 25,000 in chips to start with and 20 levels of play are scheduled for Day 1. Each level lasts 30 minutes and a 20-minute break will take place after every 4 levels. A 75-minute dinner break is scheduled after the 12th level which should be around 5:40 p.m. local time. The late registration period will be open until the end of the dinner break which should be approximately 6:55 p.m.
