Valerstein Eliminates Zarin

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Roman Valerstein opened for 5,000 on the button and Jonathan Zarin made it 15,000 in the big blind. Valerstein peeled to see {9-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Spades} flop. Zarin bet 10,000 and Valerstein called. The turn brought a {q-Hearts} and Zarin jammed for about 20,000. Valerstein called quickly with {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for queens up. Zarin had {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and needed a spade river. It didn't come as the {6-Clubs} hit.

"I guess I should have just potted the flop and you might have folded," he said. "I was trying to make myself look stronger by betting smaller."
