Zhu Quarters Hughes on the River

Level 28 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

Big-O

Ryan Hughes made it 50,000 in the second position and Yueqi Zhu called on the button. Hughes fired a continuation bet on the {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop and Zhu called the proposed 100,000.

The {7-Spades} paired the board and Hughes barrelled for 300,000. Zhu raised all in and Hughes called off.

Yueqi Zhu: {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Ryan Hughes: {Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{3-Spades}

The {2-Spades} river card was painful for Hughes whose nut low was now the same as Zhu's. He ended up quartered and had to ship Zhu's way a hefty 289,000. With the last few hits Hughes' stack suffered, he dropped from an overwhelming chip lead near the bottom of the rankings.
