Kornuth Talks Himself into the Right Call

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Chance Kornuth opened with a raise to 300 before a player on the button made it 1,200. Action folded back to Kornuth.

"You gonna lay it down for that much?" the player asked Kornuth.

"I'll draw," Kornuth said putting in the chips to call.

The flop was {K-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and both players checked to see the {8-Spades} on the turn. Kornuth led out for 1,800 and his opponent called.

On the {J-Spades} river, Kornuth bet again, this time making it 2,850. His opponent thought for a bit, then raised, making it 6,000 total. Kornuth took a look down at his cards and laughed.

"You just have ace-queen here?" Kornuth said. "I feel like I have this but I don't know."

Kornuth tanked for a bit then said, "Ok, I'll give it to you buddy," and called.

"Do I have to show," Kornuth's opponent asked. He showed the {2-Diamonds} only. Kornuth turned up his {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and collected the pot though as the player never showed his other card.
