Spade River Comes to Nomberto's Rescue

Level 33 : 300,000/600,000, 0 ante

In the small blind, Tim Andrew threw in enough chips to cover Kevin Nomberto's stack, and while he couldn't technically raise to put him at risk, Nomberto was ready to go and splashed in his 3.7 million.

Nomberto was in bad shape, trailing with {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades} against Andrew's {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}.

"I need a straight or spades," Nomberto observed.

The {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop was unentertaining, but the {8-Spades} turn gave Nomberto a flush draw and he started cheering for another spade card.

The dealer obliged, turning up the {Q-Spades} on the river to fill Nomberto's backdoor flush draw. Nomberto survived another critical moment and play continued seven-handed.
