Newman Folds to Waxman

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Matt Waxman bet 3,500 out of the small blind on fourth street with the board reading {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, and his lone opponent, Stewart Newman, deliberated for awhile before calling. On the {6-Diamonds} river, Waxman fired 6,500, and Newman tanked for about two minutes before letting it go.

American Cedes to Filatov Agression

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Russian Pro Anatoly Filatov was in the big blind and had bet 3,700 on the turn of a board reading {j-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and his opponent was thinking. One of the players not in the hand stood up and whispered in our reporter’s ear, “It’s the young, aggressive Russian versus the short-stacked American.”

The American called and the river card was the {10-Hearts}. Filatov moved some chips around and bet 25,000 which covered his opponents 11,000 stack. Did Filatov have it? Could he have it? We’ll never know as his opponent folded and Filatov received admiring murmurs for the river bet. Whose side are they on?

Cranfill Forced to Fold

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

On a board of {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Clubs}, Josh Cranfill was faced with a bet of 2,700. He would make the call to see the {2-Hearts} fall on the turn. His opponent led out for 5,700 and Cranfill called. The {10-Clubs} came on the river and Cranfill was forced to fold when his opponent shoved all in.

Andrews Looking Good

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Cherish Andrews opened for a raise to 650 and the player on the button made the call as did the player in the big blind. The flop came {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and it was checked to Andrews who bet 1,100. The player on the button made it 2,700 to go and after a few moments of deliberation, the player in the big blind moved all-in for 16,600. Andrews and the player on the button quickly folded.

Andrews is coming off of her second best WSOP performance to date, a fifth place in Event #60 that was good for $142,346. She also took fourth place in a 2012 NLHE event for $210,083, which is her career best in terms of amount won.

Duhamel Dodges Kings

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante
Jonathan Duhamel
Jonathan Duhamel

Ari Engel opened to 700 from early position and a player in late position called. Jonathan Duhamel, who is in the midst of a neck massage and looking extremely comfortable, raised to 3,000. Engel folded, but the late position player called.

Duhamel continued with a 3,400 bet on the {9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{Q-Spades} flop and his opponent raised it up to 7,500 in total. Duhamel took a look at his hole cards, tossed them back to the dealer then returned to his relaxed state.

The player who won the pot placed his hole cards in front of him and asked Duhamel to pick one. Duhamel told him to choose and he flipped over the {K-Clubs} and then the {K-Hearts}, choosing two cards not one as initially planned.

A Polk Story

Doug Polk
Doug Polk

When Doug Polk was moved into the Purple Section of the Amazon Room, he only had 3,000 chips. Now, after a triple up and double up, he has 25,000.

There was a raise to 800 from early position, a call, and a third player reraised to 2,600 on the button. Doug Polk moved all in for 13,550 out of the big blind, and the action folded to the player on the button who called all in for less.

"Don't show two jacks," the players told Polk, revealing {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}.

Polk didn't have two jacks, but he had his opponent dominated with {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. The 2014 bracelet winner held up as the board rolled out {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}, raking in the pot.

Richard Seymour

Professional athletes playing in the Main Event is nothing out of the ordinary, as Paul Pierce and Roberto Luongo have shown over the years. Today it's former New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour making his World Series of Poker Main Event debut.

Seymour was drafted sixth overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft by the Patriots and went on to play eights seasons with them playing defensive tackle. He was a part of three Super Bowl winning Patriot teams before being traded to the Raiders in 2009, where he spent the next four seasons playing both defensive tackle and defensive end. Over the course of his career, Seymour was named to the NFL All-Pro team five times and voted into the Pro Bowl seven times. His 57.5 career sacks rank in the top 20 all-time for career sacks by a defensive tackle.

He's chipped up slightly from the starting stack to about 35,000.

The Old Six-Bet Shove Gets Reinkemeier to Fold

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

We happened upon the action after Frederik Jensen had opened from the button and Tobias Reinkemeier three-bet from the small blind. The amounts of those raises escaped us, but we do known that Jensen pushed back with a four-bet to 4,800 and Reinkemeier responded with a five-bet to 10,000, leaving himself 18,300 behind.

Jensen paused for a few moments before six-betting all in, and Reinkemeier snap-folded his hand.

There was an opponent all-in and at risk on a board of {j-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs}, and Jeff Tims and a third player were competing for a side pot. Tims tossed out a bet, and the player folded.
