Jung Climbing

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

The action folded to Sunny Jung in the small blind and he raised to 600 with the big blind making the call as the dealer dropped a {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop.

Jung continued for 700 with his opponent calling as the {4-Hearts} landed on the turn. Jung bet out 2,000 and his opponent quickly folded.

Jung is now sitting on 72,500 in chips.

Veldhuis Bets Big

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

If you have ever seen Lex Veldhuis in action you will know that he is not afraid of making big plays in big pots, in fact he seems to thrive on it. In a hand that just went down Veldhuis was facing off against one player sat to his left. They had reached the river of a board reading {q-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and after sorting some chips out from his stack Veldhuis bet a pot sized bet of 7,300.

His opponent took out the calling chips and gave a rather unconvincing display of chip twirling with shaky hands. After a bit of this, while Veldhuis sat there looking unconcerned, he mucked his cards.

Mattern Moves Up

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Arnaud Mattern checked on a board of {10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, an opponent bet 1,800, and a third called. Mattern check-raised to 4,800, only the bettor called, and the {2-Spades} completed the board.

The {2-Spades} completed the board, Mattern led out for 6,850, and his opponent quickly called. The Frenchman showed {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for trip sixes, and he was awarded the pot.

Adams Loses a Bit

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

As we were walking by table 74 in the Brasilia room's red section, we noticed Brandon Adams in a hand.

Adams opened to 600 from under the gun and the player to his left three bet to 1,200. Action folded back around to Adams and he made the call.

The flop came {j-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and both players checked to the {j-Hearts} on the turn. Adams led out with a bet of 1,600 and his opponent called.

The {j-Clubs} hit on the river and Adams check-folded to a bet of 1,000 from his opponent.

Kevin's Song is Out of Tune for Williams' Liking

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
David Williams
David Williams

David Williams opened to 400 from early position and both Angel Guillen and Kevin Song called from the button and big blind respectively.

The dealer spread a {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop and Williams fired out a continuation-bet of 1,100. Guillen folded but Song called as the {8-Clubs} on the turn was checked by both players.

The river landed the {5-Clubs} and Song tossed in 3,300 with Williams eventually finding a fold to slip to 20,000 as Song moved over 40,000 in chips.

Aces Are Good For Davie

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

The first three community cards read {4-Spades}{6-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and the small blind checked over to Tim Davie in the hijack seat. Davie then set the price to play at 650 and his opponent called.

The turn brought the {J-Clubs} into play and both players checked its arrival in turn, leading the dealer to put the fifth and final community card onto the felt, the {2-Hearts}. Davie was facing a bet of 1,175 from the small blind and he quickly called, turning over {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} and winning the pot as those "bullets" were a better hand than the {A-}{J-} of his opponent.

No Traction for Moorman

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

We watched three hands in a row that didn’t work out too well for Chris Moorman, who started with 21,600.

In the first hand, Moorman raised to 500 and the player to his left three-bet him and goaded, “Put it in.” Moorman did and they checked it all the way on the final {5-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} board. Moorman got shown {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and mucked.

The next hand saw Moorman opened from first position for 500 again, and get called by the player on the button this time. The flop was {5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and when Moorman bet 500 the button player took one earphone out and called. Moorman went on to check-fold the turn to a 1,500 bet.

The third hand got a bit more expensive for Moorman. He was in the big blind and called a raise to 600 to see a four-way flop of {j-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs}. The original raiser continued for 1,700 and Moorman was the only caller.

The turn was the {q-Diamonds} and Moorman elected to check-call a further 3,500 to see the {9-Clubs} complete the board. Moorman checked and faced a bet of 5,200. He turned a few chips over in his palm glumly for a few seconds before releasing his hand.

Enter Gruissem

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

"You know who the unluckiest guy in the room is?" Matt Vengrin just asked us as we strolled through the orange section in the amazon room.

"That guy," Vengrin said after we left a blank, pointing at the guy to the immediate right of German super star Philipp Gruissem.

Gruissem's list of results in poker tournaments are off the chart, as he's cashed for more than $1.4 million in every year since 2011. Gruissem recently won the EPT Monte Carlo High Roller for $1.3 million to put himself near to top performer of 2014 as well.

One of Gruissem's first big tournament results came in the summer of 2011 when he finished 28th in the World Series of Poker Main Event. Today Gruissem's looking to start his Main Event off right, but for now he's down a little bit from the 30,000 starting stack.
