Danzer Runs Away With Day 1
The $10,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low Championship drew 134 of the best poker players on the planet to the Rio by the time registration was through today.
That helped create a $1,259,600 prize pool with $352,696 and a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet awaiting the winner.
A total of 16 players will get paid, but that number will not include Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Jason Mercier, Vanessa Selbst, Barry Greenstein, Tom Schneider, or Scott Seiver, who were among the bigger names that busted throughout the first five levels played Tuesday.
By the time they bagged and tagged, just 75 players remained in the hunt and they will all be looking up at WSOP Player of the Year leader George Danzer when play resumes at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Danzer continued his great run at the 2014 WSOP that already includes a win in the $10,000 Razz Championship, a final table appearance in the $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw and cashes in the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo and the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six Max Championship by having an amazing day here.
It appeared the German Team PokerStars Pro scooped every hand he played on the way to building a huge 237,800-chip stack giving him a massive chip lead headed into Wednesday's Day 2.
However, there's still a long way to go, there are some rather big names that built competing stacks on the day and they will be looking to end Danzer's run-good as play continues.
This list includes no less than high-stakes online legend Brian Hastings, high-stakes gamblers Richard Sklar and Abe Mosseri, and 2014 WSOP bracelet winners Justin Bonomo and Calvin Anderson.
A host of other recognizable names also dot the chip counts list as well, including John Juanda, Dan Shak, Frank Kassela, Ted Forrest, Jeff Lisandro and more.
The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be back with extensive coverage from start to finish tomorrow as they look to play another five two-hour levels or down to a final table so tune in early and often as we get even closer to crowning a $10,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low Champion.
