Six-time World Series of Poker Circuit ring winner Ari Engel is one of the 920 players currently registered for today's $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event. Despite having six Circuit rings to his name, Engel has yet to capture his first ever-elusive WSOP gold bracelet.
While five of Engel's six Circuit rings were won in no-limit hold'em events, Engel managed to show off his PLO prowess during the 2011/12 season at Harrah's Philadelphia. At the time, Engel was hunting for his third Circuit ring and he ultimately rose above the field in a Mixed Pot-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha event. Engel's victory pocketed him $8,292 and showcased that he was a force to be reckoned with in games other than NLHE.
Today, we found Engel engaged in a heads up where the board read . Action checked to Engel and he fired out a bet of 250. His opponent called and the board paired on the river with the . After a check from his opponent, Engel tossed out one final bet of 450. His opponent called, but quickly mucked his hand after Engel rolled over , playing his nine-six for the straight.
Engel is off to a solid start for the day and now sits on about 5,400 in chips.
