Motycka Runs Into Aces

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

There was some action before it got to Debbie Motycka who moved all in. She was quickly called by Michael Katz who had slightly fewer chips than Motycka.

Motycka turned over {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} but had run into the {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} of Katz.

The board ran out {8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts} and there would be no jack for Motycka who is now left short with about 20,000 after being the chip leader just a few levels ago.

Watts Burnt Out

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Taylor von Kriegenbergh just eliminated Steven Watts when he opened to 8,000 and was faced with a shove of 40,000 from Watts.
“How much buddy?” von Kriegenbergh asked and called.

von Kriegenbergh had {a-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and was up against {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
The cards ran out {q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{a-Spades}{q-Spades}{a-Clubs}. Watts was out of his seat as soon as the flop hit and he then headed to the pay-out desk.

Hellmuth Cracks Nguyen

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

We picked up the action with a board of {3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and a check from Phil Hellmuth. His heads-up opponent was Soi Nguyen and he bet 9,000. Hellmuth raised to 24,000 and Nguyen made the call. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Hellmuth bet 33,000 and Nguyen called.

The river was the {8-Spades} and Hellmuth bet 41,000. Nguyen made the call with {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}, only to see the bad news as Hellmuth tabled {k-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for the flush.

Hellmuth apologetically took the big pot and left Nguyen with just a few big blinds; Nguyen would bust on the next hand.

Smith Tightens Grip

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Dan Smith
Dan Smith

Dan Smith knocked another player out shortly before the break and his stack just keeps heading skywards. He has just broken through 700,000.

Smith said towards the start of this tournament that he didn’t particularly enjoy playing nine and ten handed table tournaments but he may be changing his mind in this particular one.

He had joked earlier, “I run so bad.” as he knocked another player out.

Motycka Shown the Bluff

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Debbie Motycka
Debbie Motycka

Debbie Motycka had bet 10,000 on the river of a board reading {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and faced an all-in raise to 60,000.

Motycka studied the flop for a while and with a shrug of her shoulders gave it up. Her opponent to her left had just put his tournament at risk and a smile crept across his lips as he looked back at his cards. He turned over the {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} to show all he had was ace high.

There was no reaction from Motycka who has lost a few chips in the last level but is keeping her composure.

Symesko Takes It On the Turn

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Christopher Symesko
Christopher Symesko

Christopher Symesko is continuing the active and aggressive game that put him in such a good position yesterday. He called a raise to 7,000 in position to see a heads up flop of {6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and then called a bet of 7,000.

The turn card was the {3-Diamonds} and when his opponent checked to him he made a bet of 16,500 and got a fold.
