Michael Gathy - 2013 $1,000 Turbo Winner
Michael Gathy - 2013 $1,000 Turbo Winner

Today at the 2014 WSOP, we will see what is certain to be the fastest structure of the entire Series as Event #23: $1,000 Turbo No-Limit Hold'em will get underway. With just 30-minute levels scheduled for the first day of play and only 3,000 in starting chips, players will be under pressure to build a stack quickly. After four hours of play, the blinds will be 300/600, which means you won't be able to sit patiently and wait for a hand.

Michael Gathy learned that lesson last year as he would ride the wave to the winners circle to win his second WSOP bracelet and $278,613. He bested a field of 1,629 players to do so, topping a final table that included Benjamin Reason, Sergey Rybachenko, and Jake Cody. Others who would make the money last year were Jennifer Tilly, Aaron Massey, Gordon Vayo, Dimitar Danchev, Tim West, Kyle Julius, Ronnie Bardah, Melanie Weisner, and Antonio Esfandiari.

Play will get underway here at the Rio at noon local time. There will be a 90-minute dinner break at the completion of Level 13. PokerNews will be here for all the exciting action, so stay tuned for updates throughout the day.
