Bernstein Bubbles in Brutal Cooler

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Well, it didn't take long for the bubble to burst.

It happened when Adam Bernstein limped under the gun and action folded to Artem Metalidi in the big blind. He raised to 3,600, and Bernstein simply moved all in for 58,600. Metalidi snap-called.

Metalidi: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Bernstein: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

It was a cooler hand, and Bernstein was on the bad end of things. With a minimum payday of $5,041 on the line the dealer ran out the board — {10-Spades}{3-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{a-Clubs}. There would be no miracle for Bernstein and he became the bubble boy in particularly brutal fashion.

Back in Action

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Since hand-for-hand play began at the end of Level 12, the players will continue to play at that blind level for a maximum of one hour. If the bubble bursts before then, the level will be immediately upped to Level 13.

Kamutzki Takes Care of Gross

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Jeff Gross got his last 12,400 all in preflop and was up against Heinz Kamutzki.

Kamutzki: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Gross: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

It was a flip, but not after the {6-Hearts}{q-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop delivered Kamutzki a set. Gross needed to catch running cards, but the {4-Diamonds} turn took away any chance of that happening. The meaningless {5-Spades} was run out on the river for good measure, and Gross took his leave from the tournament.

Kenney Loses Some Weight and Some Chips

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Bryn Kenney, who recently lost 50 lbs., opened for 2,600 under the gun and picked up a caller on the button. After the blinds folded, the flop came down {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Kenney continued for 3,300. A call was made, the {3-Hearts} appeared on the turn, and Kenney bet again, this time 8,400.

Another call was made, which brought about the {7-Diamonds} river. Kenney fired a third time for 23,700, but he couldn't shake his opponent. Kenney sheepishly showed the {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for a missed straight draw, which was no good against his opponent's {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

Tehan Sends One to the Rail

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Action folded to Joe Tehan in the cutoff and he moved all in for 26,800. The button folded, and then the player in the small blind called off for 11,600.

Tehan: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}

Tehan was way out in front with the bigger pair, and he scored the knock out after the board ran out {3-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}.

Chasing that Thrill

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

On a flop of {8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, David Chase bet 4,500 from the small blind and Will "The Thrill" Failla called from the big. After the dealer burned and turned the {K-Clubs}, Chase led out for 7,000 and then called when Failla raised to 17,000. Both players then checked the {3-Spades} river.

Chase tabled the {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}, and it was good as Failla sent his cards to the muck.

Heavyweights at Table 33

Level 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Nick Yunis
Nick Yunis

At the start of the day Brandon Cantu, Barry Hutter and Andreas Hoivold were the top three stacks. All three still have heaps, and amazingly all three are seated at Table 33!

In a recent hand there, we caught the action on the river with a board reading {5-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs} and about 80,000 in the pot. Hutter had moved all in and his opponent, Nick Yunis, was deep in the tank debating what to do with his remaining 50,000.

We're not sure how long Yunis had been in the tank, but eventually a clock was called. Yunis then spiked in a call and waited anxiously for Hutter to table his hand — {7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. An excited Yunis then rolled over his winning {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and clapped his hands together to celebrate the big double.

Add Yunis to the names of big stacks over at Table 33.
