Brenes Takes One from Sands

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Humberto Brenes raised to 900 pre-flop, and Doc Sands called from the big blind. Both players checked when the flop came {10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. The turn card was the {5-Clubs}, and this time Sands led out for 1450. Brenes called, and the two of them saw the {3-Clubs} fall on the river. After thinking for a minute, Sands checked, and then Brenes pushed forward three yellow chips for a bet of 3,000. After considering the bet for a moment, Sands folded and Brenes won the pot.

Antonio Esfandiari

"We gambled."

That's how Esfandiari described his victory today at his shoot out table. "We got it all in and my cards came and his didn't. But you want more specifics don't you?"

Esfandiari eventually told us that his opponent moved his short stack all in with {A-}{9-} and Esfandiari called with {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Esfandiari told us he caught up and it was good enough for a victory today.

John Hennigan has won his table and advanced to round two tomorrow.

On the final hand, the players were all-in pre-flop in a classic coin flip, with Hennigan holding {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and his opponent holding {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The flop came {8-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}, giving "Johnny World" the lead. Neither the {7-Clubs} on the turn nor the {9-Hearts} on the river helped his opponent, and Hennigan won the hand and his table.
