Jaffe Check-Raises the River

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

Annette Obrestad raised it up to 40,000 from under the gun, and Jonathan Jaffe was the lone caller out of the big blind. The dealer put out a flop of {5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades}, and Jaffe checked to Obrestad, who bet out 55,000. Jaffe tossed in the call, and the turn was the {j-Spades}. Jaffe check-called another bet from Obrestad, this one for 135,000, and the river came the {8-Hearts}.

Jaffe checked a third time, and Obrestad bet a third time. The bet was 260,000 this time around, and Jaffe tanked for almost a minute before he announced “raise.” The check-raise was for a total of 660,000, and Obrestad mulled it over for a bit before folding, giving Jaffe the substantial pot.

Obrestad fell to 2.161 million after that hand while Jaffe jumped up to second in chips with 3.21 million.
