Enter Brandon Cantu

Level 5 : 300/600, 100 ante

Another of the players to register late today and show up right at the end of registration was Brandon Cantu, and it looks like registering late may have paid off for him.

We caught up to Cantu on a flop of {9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades}. There he checked to his opponent who fired out 3,600. Cantu reraised to 9,000 and the player called.

The turn fell the {3-Clubs} and Cantu fired out again, this time for 12,500. Once again his opponent just called.

On the {6-Diamonds} river, Cantu bet one more time, this time a bet worth 32,000, which was almost enough to put the player all in. His opponent went into the tank.

"I wouldn't be left with very much here," he said to no one in particular.

After about two minutes, the player made the call.

Cantu turned over {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a straight and that was good for Cantu to take down the pot.

Kagawa Beats Meyers

Level 5 : 300/600, 100 ante

Finally, someone was able to beat Brandon Meyers out of a pot, who is the early chip leader with over 270,000 in chips. The player that beat him was Masa Kagawa.

From under the gun, Meyers raised to 1,500. JC Tran called from the cutoff seat, and Kagawa called from the big blind. ON the {10-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop, Kagawa checked, Meyers bet 3,000, Tran folded, and Kagawa called.

The turn was the {5-Hearts}, and Kagawa checked. Meyers bet 8,000, and Kagawa called. Both players then checked the {7-Diamonds} river card.

Kagawa showed the {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for top pair, and Meyers mucked his hand.

Juanda Hits the River

Level 5 : 300/600, 100 ante

We arrived at the table, just as John Juanda committed his remaining 33,000 in to the pot, with the board showing {j-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. His opponent asked for a count, then made the call, only to let out a big moan, as Juanda tabled his {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for a rivered set. He showed his {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, before jumping up from his chair, and walking to a nearby table, to tell a friend of his beat.

Level 5 : 300/600, 100 ante

Action began on Sorel Mizzi who raised to 1,500 from under the gun. Action folded around to Shannon Shorr who was in the small blind and he reraised to 5,100. The big blind folded putting the action back on Mizzi and he just flat called.

The flop came down {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Shorr lead out for 4,000. Mizzi called. On the {2-Spades} turn, both players checked.

The river came down the {J-Spades} and Shorr checked to Mizzi again. This time, Mizzi put out a bet of 9,200. With action back on Shorr, he reraised to 25,500. Mizzi thought about it for a bit, but eventually folded.
