Vert Doubles Through Farrell

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Ian Simpson started the action by raising to 26,000 from the hijack. Phillippe Vert called from the cutoff, and it was on Niall Farrell on the button. He peaked down at his cards, then thought for about 45 seconds before cutting out a three bet of 72,000, and dropping it in. Simpson folded after just a few moments of thought, and it was back to Vert. He moved all in for 422,000 total, and Farrell rechecked his hole cards, then announced call.

Vert: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Farrell: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Vert spiked his aces down on the felt while Farrell could only let out a big sigh. It went from bad to worse for Farrell when the flop came down {k-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{3-Hearts}. Farrell would now need runner runner to win the hand but the {2-Hearts} on the turn ended it. The meaningless river was the {7-Clubs}, and Vert took the double up to 865,000.

More Bets

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

While flops are still few and far between and a showdown with more than the minimum in the pot is even more rare, preflop raising is going to the next level. Jason Mercier raised to 24,000 from middle position and Michael Rocco directly on his left raised to 72,000. That was followed by a 4-bet to 160,000 by Martin Hanowski directly to Rocco's left and that was good enough to win the pot.

Play Slowing Down

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

The play always slows down at some point in these tournaments as the stacks grow to a good average, and it appears that the time is now in this tournament. With 17 players left, we have only seen one showdown so far, and that hand was checked down to the river. The average stack is 50 big blinds, so the players seem content to sit tight and wait for big hands at this moment.

Larry Quang Eliminated in 18th Place ($21,773)

On the first hand after the two table redraw, Jason Mercier opened to 20,000 in early position. Larry Quang was next to act, and he shoved all in for his last 120,000. It folded back around to Mericer, and he snap called.

Mercier: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Quang: {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

Quang got a sweat on the flop when it came down {q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. He could not catch a ten for a straight, but it wasn't meant to be, as the board completed {8-Clubs} and {8-Hearts}. After collecting that KO, Mericer is now up to 900,000.

Jeff Tims Eliminated in 20th Place ($17,910), Giang Hoang Eliminated in 19th Place ($17,910)

Level 21 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Giang Hoang
Giang Hoang

Zohair Karim raised it up to 22,000 in middle position, and it folded around to Giang Hoang in the small blind. He moved all in for his last 90,000, and Jeff Tims committed the rest of his minute stack in the big blind. Karim toss the call in, and said, "I need a suckout!"

Karim: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Hoang: {a-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Tims: {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

Karim was surprised to see that he was actually ahead, and the flop hit Karim, coming {6-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Spades}. Hoang was drawing to runner runner, while Tims could still pair one of his cards to win, but the turn was the {5-Clubs}, and the river the {6-Hearts}.

The double elimination got us to our final 18,while Karim is our chip leader with 1.3 million.

Tims Is Crippled

Level 21 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

The action began with a raise to 22,000 from Larry Quang. Jeff Tims moved all in from the button and that was followed by an all in from Justin Zaki. Quang looked as if he wanted to come along but opted for the fold.

Tims: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Zacki: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

With Tims yelling "keep it low" the {j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs}flop was dealt and gave Zaki some more outs. Zaki received one of his outs when the {q-Hearts} came on the turn and that made the {2-Hearts} river irrelevant. After the chips were counted, Tims was left with just 5,000 in chips.

Tims folded the next hand but tripled up on the following hand when he paired his queen against Zaki.

Karim Gets Value Again

Level 21 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Zohair Karim has been throwing some of his opponents off with his unorthodox betting today, but it surely has been working for him, as he just took a big pot off Jeff Tims to get up to over a million.

Karim raised it up to 22,000, and Tims called from the small blind. The flop came down {k-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{8-Spades}, and Tims checked to Karim, who bet out 21,000. Tims called, and the turn brought the {2-Hearts}. Tims again checked, and this time, Karim fired out nearly a min bet, 11,000. Tims called that, and the river was the {a-Clubs}.

Tims checked a third time, and like he did before, Karim overbet the river, tossing out 126,000. Tims thought for about a minute before calling, and Karim rolled over {a-Spades}{7-Spades} for two pair.

Tims tapped the table with both fists, and said "I floated the flop, turn the nut flush draw, and rivered an ace," before mucking his hand.
