Rabbit Hunting Shows a Much Different Outcome for Merivirta

Level 18

Stud Hi-Lo

Peter Brownstein: {x-}{x-} / {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{k-Hearts} Fold
Greg Mueller: {x-}{x-} / {2-Hearts}{6-Spades}{a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} / {x-}
Jyri Merivirta: {x-}{x-} / {j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} / {x-}

We came across the action with Jyri Merivirta all in on fourth and about 60,000 in the main pot. Peter Brownstein ended up calling a bet from Greg Muller on fifth street and then folded after one on sixth. Mueller showed the {a-Clubs}{3-Spades} for trip aces, and Merivirta showed a good drawing hand with the {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}.

Mueller looked down at a {K-}, which didn't improve his hand, and then Merivirta showed the {Q-Spades}. It was no help and Merivirta was eliminated from the tournament.

As Merivirta lingered, Mueller pointed out that had Brownstein stayed in, he would have taked the king and the queen would have been Mueller's. That meant the card on top of the deck would have been Merivirta's. The dealer rabbit hunted for fun and it was a {4-}. Had Brownstein called that one bet, Merivirta would have made a straight and scooped the pot.
