The Importance of Beating Earnest

On the very first deal of the day, Jimmy Earnest looked down to find {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} in the hole. Presented with a glorious opportunity to take control of his table, Earnest took a flop of {6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. The final board cards were the {9-Hearts} on the turn, and the {3-Diamonds} on the river.

At some point in the hand, all of the chips got moved into the middle, with Earnest holding slightly more than Fernando Halac's 291,000 when the last bets were made, and wouldn't you know it, Halac turned over the {6-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for two pair on the flop.

"Nice catch," said Earnest, standing to shake Halac's hand while dealer matched up their stacks. "Now it's the proverbial chip and a chair." With less than 2 big blinds two his name, Earnest had better hope that old adage holds true.
